In 1953, we began life as Edgewood Lock Service in Richmond, TX.

In 1956, following the naming trend of other locksmiths, we change our name to Helweg Safe & Lock. Fred J. Helweg worked his way through high school and college as a locksmith. In fact while he was a student at the University of Houston he was also on staff as their locksmith. In the early Seventies Fred and a few other like minded individuals founded the Greater Houston Locksmiths Association.

In 1971, Fred was able to obtain a “B” security license (B-01472) under the name Atlas Alarms from, what is now known as, the Texas Private Security Bureau. He continued to make a living and support his family as a locksmith while learning about security alarm systems.

In 1988, Atlas Alarms had an opportunity to acquire Texas Security Alarms, which substantially grew our security alarm business.

In July 2007, Fred & his son John agreed to become business partners. Atlas Alarms became Atlas Alarms, LLC and John began growing his half of the business by acquiring accounts from other alarm companies.

In September 2008, John left his full-time job to take on the day to day operations of Atlas Alarms, LLC.

In September 2009, Atlas Alarms, LLC once again had an opportunity to acquire assets from another, much larger security company.

In March 2010, Fred & John partnered with two other like-minded individuals in the security industry to form Electronic Systems Management, Inc. ESM is a low voltage project management company for mid to large projects. We believe that ESM expands and complements the services Atlas Alarms, LLC offers.
